Strikeforce Evolution weigh-ins
The weigh-ins for the Strikeforce Evolution event was held Friday at the San Jose Marriott and having been at the last weigh-ins (Carano vs. Cyborg), this one was much better organized. Granted there were half the people there this time and it was better spaced out, they did good. (Check out the Video after the jump)
They opened up with Herschel Walker being introduced to the Media and fans. He seriously already sounded as if he was punch drunk with words slurring together. He talked about training at AKA in San Jose and getting beat up by Cain Velasquez and Josh Koscheck. He’ll be ready for his first MMA fight on January 30th in Florida where he will officially become a Mixed Martial Artist.
All fighters made weight with the exception of David Douglas who was 2lbs. over at first attempt. He weighed back in later and made the weight but his fight was later scrapped for an undisclosed reason. Both Melendez and Thomson fully undressed to weigh-in even though both made it under the 155lb. limit. The only other thing that stood out was King Mo needing an Umbrella to stay out of the lights….WTF!
I did get a chance to talk with Dan Henderson a little and he was really happy to be in Strikeforce but had no hard feelings towards Dane White or the UFC. confirmed he will be fighting at the next Strikeforce event on CBS in April but didn’t want to confirm if his opponent was Jake Shields. I asked him what was the main reason for the two sides not coming to an agreement. He said the two couldn’t agree financially and when asked about Clinch Gear being banned, Dan said it had nothing to do with his decision adding it was good publicity.
