Ken Shamrock fighting for a title?

Ok MMA has taken a page from boxing on this one. Ken Shamrock (27-13-2) is set to come back from his suspension and into the cage March 6th for the International Unlimited Fighting WFO belt. That’s not a typo Ken shamrock, yes the guy who hasn’t won since 2004 (the late Ross Clifton doesn’t count) and has only 2 wins in almost 10 years. This has the feel of a washed up Evander Holyfield fighting for some obscure title all over again. Shamrock should have retired years ago after getting his lights turned out by Rich Franklin in 2005.
I understand there are hundreds of small MMA promotions out there and each has it’s own titles, but wasting a title fight on a extremely past his prime, steroid user is clearly a cash grab. Moving forward for the IUF what impact will this bad message send to the current/future fighters in that organization.
His opponent for this title fight will be Seth “The Silverback” Petruzelli who is best know for defeating Kimbo Slice and the Ultimate collapse of EliteXC. Ironically Shamrock was suppose to face Slice that night and backed out after warm-ups hours before fight because of a cut. Petruzelli then stepped in at the very last minute, shocked the world, brought down an organization and then proceeded to disappear. We now come full circle and Petruzelli will face the guy who essentially helped him make a name for himself with the chance to help him again, by losing. Petruzelli beating Shamrock will not shock the world at all, in fact he should be favored to win. The win though will get his name back out there, a belt around his waste (for what it’s worth) and maybe a few fights away from moving to bigger things in either Strikeforce or the UFC.
