Wilson Gouveia signs with MFC
The Maximum Fighting Championship announced today they have signed American Top Team’s Wilson Gouveia (12-7) to a multi-fight deal and will fight Canadian star “Big Deal” Ryan Jimmo (12-1) at MFC 25: Vindication at the Winspear Centre/Enmax Hall in Edmonton, Alberta April 9.
Gouveia’s will make his return to 205 pounds after a disastrous stint fighting at middleweight where his went 2-2. The Brazilian lost consecutive stoppages to Nate “The Great” Marquardt (29-8-2) and Alan “The Talent” Belcher (15-6) at 185 pounds, missed weight by three pounds before a victory over fellow MFC fighter “The Athlete” Jason MacDonald (22-13), and won his middleweight debut over Ryan Jensen (14-6). Gouveia supposedly moved to middleweight to be one of the bigger guys in that division, but had trouble making the weight.
“It was too much sacrifice and too hard, man, I’m a professional. I do this for a living and I love it, but I don’t like to miss weight, you know? And, I would pass out in the sauna and guys would drag me out and say, ‘You have to stop this.’ It was just too much sacrifice and too hard on my body.
