MMA missed an Opportunity
When the massive 7.0 earthquakes rocked Haiti January 12that 4:53pm many people living outside of Haiti were indirectly affected. One such person was former UFC Middleweight contender David Loiseau who is born to Haitian parents. Loiseau’s mother, grandparents and uncles all live in Haiti and he spent 2 sleepless days waiting to hear if they were all ok. The news wasn’t all good though as his grandmother’s first cousin and a long time friend of the family both passed away in the quake.
Almost immediately Loiseau called out to the major MMA promotions offering to give every penny of his next fight purse to help the earthquake victims. The offer unfortunately was left on the table as neither the UFC or Strikeforce took him up on the offer. Loiseau will keep doing whatever he can to raise awareness and funds for the ongoing relief in Haiti.
Both the UFC and Strikeforcemissed a great opportunity letting this offer sit on the table unanswered. Loiseau was not doing this with any hidden agenda to get a long term fight contract he just wanted to get a “big” payday to donate and help. There really isn’t any good reason why neither took the offer, they both have events coming up in the next few weeks. Strikeforce is just now finalizing an opponent for Bobby Lashey so there is no excuse why they couldn’t have put together this fight and think of the exposure it would get them. The UFC could have done it too but my guess is they don’t like one fight contracts so it’s a no go. I wish David Loiseau the best and feel for his lose and lose everyone else had from the tragic earthquakes in Haiti. If you can give anything please contact your local red cross to see what you can donate to help.
