Top 5 fights of the weekend doubleheader
This weekend the guys at Zuffa gave MMA fans a 21 fight weekend doubleheader. A weekend Filled with great finishes, quick knockouts and slick submissions. Let’s also not forget the usually wacky judges’ decisions that make everyone scratch their heads.
With the Ultimate Fighter season 11 finale on Saturday being filled with hungry fighters looking to earn a spot in the UFC. Coupled with Sunday’s WEC and the always entertaining lower weight classes fighting. The weekend was bound to produce some memorable fights, so here are the top five memorable fights of the weekend.
5. Jamie Yager vs. Rich Attonito (The Ultimate Fighter)
This fight was questioned a lot for being a part of the main card, but come on Dana White isn’t stupid. You either love him or hate him and giving the fans a chance to watch him win or lose was the right more. Yager haters got what they wanted with Attonito wearing down the very athletic Yager for the second round TKO.
4. Kris McCary vs. Court McGee (The Ultimate Fighter)
This fight completed the 11th season of the Ultimate Fighter with Court McGee submitting Kris McCary by rear naked choke in the second round. What makes this fight memorable for the story of McGee and what he had to overcome be to the next ultimate fighter. McGee also took home Submission of the night.
3. Jamie Varner vs. Kamal Shalorus (WEC 49)
A classic 15 minutes brawl that was tainted by the judge’s ruling the fight a split draw. The two fighters stood toe to toe for most of the fight with Varner stunning Shalorus on multiple occasions. Showing a rock solid chin though out the fight, Shalorus kept coming forward attacking Varner. That attacking though cost Shalorus a point when his foot found Varner cup too many times, which ending up costing Shalorus the win.
2. Mark Hominick vs. Yves Jabouin (WEC 49)
Jabouin started out so fast and looked to be on another speed setting the whole fight round. Hominick weathered that early storm and took over in the second round. The body shots shown by Hominick were so impressive, Jabouin had no answer for them and Hominick finished the fight in the second by TKO.
1. Matt Hamill vs. Keith Jardine (The Ultimate Fighter)
The two ultimate fighter alums put on a 15 minute slugfest that left Jardine a bloody mess. Hamill is the wrestler so most would figure he’d have to take the fight to the ground to win but he stood with Jardin and won by Majority Decision. This fight also captured fight of the night.
