Strikeforce planning Muhammed Lawal vs. Rafael Cavalcante
As first mentioned here by Scott Coker, Strikeforce has decided to move into a different direction with Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal after his friend Bobalu Sobral defeated Robbie Lawler. News came out today from MMAFighting of Lawal (7-0) likely defending his light heavyweight title against Rafael Cavalcante (9-2) in Houston August 21 as part of the night main event.
Following Sobral’s victory over Lawler at Strikeforce: LA he had earned himself a title shot against Lawal but he immediately talked down at a possible title fight, insisting there were better fights out there for him the following week, Strikeforce seemed to turn its attention to a possible matchup between Sobral and Dan Henderson instead of Lawal.
Cavalcante will be taking a step up in opponents when he faces Lawal but with only seven fights as a professional to Cavalcante’s 11, experience will be on the challengers side. Lawal will be making his frist title defence after defeating Gegard Mousasi in April by unanimous decision.
