UFC 119 adding Chris Lytle vs Matt Serra rematch
Just days after announcing the main event and co-main event for UFC 119, the UFC added another very solid main card matchup. A native of Indianapolis, Indiana Chris Lytle (28-17) was long rumored to be on the card in his hometown. His fight was made official on the card and his opponent is an old friend, Matt Serra (11-6).
The two appeared on season four on the Ultimate Fighter: The Comeback and meet in the finale. During that season the twist was the season winner also got a welterweight title shot against Georges St. Pierre. In the finale Serra took the title over Lytle by a very close split decision, earning the title shot against St.-Pierre.
Serra went on to face St.-Pierre at UFC 69 where he stunned the world by knocking out St.-Pierre in the first round winning the welterweight title.
The telling stat in this rematch is what each has done since their first fight back in November of 2006. Serra did win the welterweight title, but a year later lost it in the rematch with St.-Pierre and has only gone 2-2 overall in almost 4 years. Lytle on the other hand has gone 7-4 over the same time, while also scoring four fight of the night, two submissions of the night and one knockout of the night honors.
The two have taken a little different path from 2006 to present but this rematch will be a fun one to watch and with Lytle fighting, likely fight of the night.
