The Strikeforce Challengers series came into the Comcast Arena in Everett, Washington and put on another solid event. The Challenger series are designed to showcase the up and coming fighter Strikeforce has to offer and give them experience and exposure. Tonight event Headlined by co-main events, Sarah Kaufmann vs. Roxanne Modafferi for the 135 lbs. title and heavyweights Shane Del Rosario vs. Lolohea Mahe.

The main card started out with Carlos Fodor vs. Thomas Diagne, which was controlled by Fodor’s aggressive in your face style. Not giving Diagne any room to use his striking Fodor easily took a unanimous Decision.

Next up was the Mike Kyle vs. Ron Humphrey light heavyweight fight that had the Strikeforce announcers talking possible title fight for the winner. A back a forth first roundas the two settled into the fight lead to an exciting second round with Kyle getting a takedown, moving to Humphrey’s back and sinking in a rear naked choke. The win gives Kyle now five in a row and possible one fight away from a title shot.

The most controversial fight on the main card was next as Bobby Voelker won a Split decision over hometown fighter Cory Devela. The fight was close with Devela clearly winning the first round, but the rest of the fight was tough to score. Voelker was getting the better positioning but not doing much damage with it, while Devela was tiring he was still also scoring. As the fight ended all three announcers ringside gave the fight to Devela 30-27, but it was Voelker getting the nod by the judges.

The co-main event was up next and it was a good as Roxanne Modafferi took on 135 lbs. Champion Sarah Kaufmann. For the first two rounds Modafferi was really executing her game plan well, taking down the champ several times. Kaufmann hung in there andas the second round came to a close she ended with a flurry that seemed to take the steam away from the challenger. Kaufmann came out in the third and began to dominate, she had Modafferi on her back and as she tried for a armbar, Kaufmann picked her up and slammed her down instantly knocking her out. A very impressive slam and win for the undefeated Kaufmann.

Last fight of the night was undefeated heavyweight Shane Del Rosario vs. Lolohea Lahe and this was a total showcase for the raising star, Del Rosario. He had no trouble making quick work of the Hawaiian Mahe, using his striking to endthe fight by TKO in the first round. That was a good win for Kaufman. Hopefully she’s proven herself enough to make it on a main card. You know, seeing as how she’s a champion and all..

  2. Joshua Wood says:

    @Bill
    Yeah I think that was the last time we see her on a Challengers event
