UFC on Versus 2 is now in the books and we are now 6 nights away from UFC 117 up north in Oakland, CA. Tonight though San Diego played host to a night filled with more first round stoppages then decisions.

The undercard was highlighted by the super submission finish be UFC newcomer Charles Oliveira in 41 seconds of round one. His opponent, Darren Elkins picked him up and slammed him down but Oliveria quickly worked to a triangle choke and the fight was over.

The main card started out with Takanori Gomi showing the US fans what made him a star in Japan, his power. Gomi landed a pretty right hand to the jaw of Griffin that knocked him off his feet and face first into the canvas. The TKO defeat was the first time Griffin has ever been stopped before in his career.

A welterweight fight between Jake Ellenberger and John Howard was up next and this first was pretty one sided. Ellenberger controlled Howard the whole fight, smothering him against the cage and on the ground. Ellenberger landed a right elbow that closed up Howards left eye and in the third round was the reason for the Doctor stoppage.

The co-main event between Mark Munoz and Yushin Okami was a great back and forth battle. Okami’s game plan was to keep the fight standing while Munoz wanted to take him down and bash Okami’s head in. Okami did a great job sprawling when Munoz went for the takedown and in the third even rocked Munoz. Judges gave the fight to Okami by split decision, though most thought the fight was 29-28 Okami.

Main event time and if you blinked or went to grab a drink you missed another impressive victory by Jon Jones. Jones quickly took the wrestler Matyushenko down, moved to a crucifix position and rained down elbows to the defenseless Russian forcing the ref stoppage. People though Jones was over-hyped but what are they saying now?
