The Future of Keith Jardine starts September 11

September 11th, 2010, “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jadine (15-8) will look to open up new opportunities for his future in MMA. Jardine is looking to start over and prove he is still a top contender in the rising sport. He gets his first shot at a fresh start in less than two weeks against veteran Trevor Prangley (22-6) in the main event of Shark Fights 13.

Jardine, a cast member of The Ultimate Fighter 2 was released from the UFC after his fourth consecutive loss against Matt Hamil at The Ultimate Fighter 11 Finale. Jardine left the UFC with a record of 6-7, having lost six of his last eight bouts with the organization.

At the peak of his career, Jardine was considered one of the best light heavyweights in the UFC. With wins over Forrest Griffin, Chuck Liddell, and Brandon Vera, Jardine was able to get a number one contender fight against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 96. Jardine lost by unanimous decision and his career with the UFC was downhill from there.

Jardine received two knockout losses to Thiago Silva and Ryan Bader, which put him in jeopardy of his job. After the loss to Hamil, Jardine was given his walking papers from the UFC.

Later on in an interview Jardine said he was excited to start over with a new promotion, but he was saddened to leave the UFC.

In a Shark Fights press release Jardine stated “To prove that I’m still a top contender I need to fight for credible organizations and face high caliber opponents.”

Prangley has also admitted he’s trying to rebuild after his loss to Strikeforce middleweight contender Tim Kennedy at Strikeforce: Los Angeles. He also suffered a technical draw for an illegal eye poke on Karl Amoussou at Strikeforce Challengers 6.

On September 11th, both of these fighters are going into this fight looking for a win to get themselves back in the win column and fresh start. Jardine will come into this fight with his unorthodox fighting style looking to knockout the South African. Meanwhile, Prangley will look to use his wrestling to try and end the fight via submission.

After this fight we will see if Jardine stays with the Shark Fights promotion or moves onto another promotion looking for the top contenders. Jardine needs to win his next four or five fights to show he still has what it takes to perform with the high level of competition that the UFC has to offer. Jardine has a lot of heart, now he needs to show that he still has the fight he once had.
