Lawler vs. Lindland booked for December 4th Strikeforce
The rumored Strikeforce fight between Matt Lindland and Robbie Lawler on December 4th in St Louis has now been signed. They will be added to a card that is expected to include Dan Henderson vs. Renato “Babalu” Sobral, Paul Daley vs. Scott Smith and Herschel Walker against an undetermined opponent.
Lindland, the silver medalist in Greco-Roman Wrestling at the 2000 Summer Olympics and has a record of 22-7 with 8 KOs and 7 submissions. Lawler sports an equally impressive 19-6 record with 16 KOs with only 1 submission, he also has 1 fight ruled a no-contest.
This is a huge style match up between Lindland’s wrestling and Lawler’s striking. Lindland’s world-class wrestling pedigree is undeniable and includes time training with wrestlers Dan Henderson and Randy Couture at Team Quest. He also has the benefit of facing a much higher level of competition in his career. His victories include MMA legends such as Carlos Newton, Mike Van Arsdale and Jeremy Horn. His losses, perhaps even more impressive, include Rampage Jackson, Vitor Belfort and Fedor Emelianenko. Lawler’s top victories include Ninja Rua, Frank Trigg and Chris Lytle with losses to Mayhem Miller, Jake Shields and Evan Tanner.
Lawler also had issues making weight in his last match against Babalu Sobral. The fight was supposed to be fought at a catchweight of 195 lbs, but after 3 weigh-in attempts, he could only make 195.5. If this match is at the middleweight limit of 185 lbs. as expected, Lawler may suffer the effects of a difficult weight cut before the fight.
Thought Lawler is part of Team Hughes H.I.T. Squad fighting out of Granite City, Illinois, he has recently been training with UFC fighters Ryan Bader, C.B. Dollaway and Aaron Simpson in Arizona.
