It looks as if former champions Forrest Griffin and Rich Franklin will face each other on Super Bowl weekend at UFC 127. Although the bout is yet to be official, both men have agreed to the fight which will likely serve as the co-main event on the card that continues to add excitement.
Franklin is coming off a first round knockout victory over Chuck Liddell at UFC 115. Midway through the fight, Liddell threw a high kick that Franklin blocked with his left arm, which consequently broke on impact. Despite the injury, Franklin stayed composed and landed a devastating right hand that flattened “The Iceman”. The question still remains whether Franklin’s arm will be medically cleared to fight come February.
Griffin has been sidelined for almost a year now due to shoulder surgery. In his last outing, he earned a split decision victory over Tito Ortiz, avenging his first loss in the UFC. Re-occurring injuries have kept the Las Vegas native from fighting frequently but hopefully with this surgery, fans will see more of him in the future.
It’s difficult to predict where the winner of this bout will stand in the always-stacked light heavyweight division. Franklin has made it clear that he’s hoping for another title run. Griffin on the other hand just loves to fight, no matter who it is. One thing is for sure when these two-step inside the cage, there will be three rounds of non-stop action.
