Strikeforce: Diaz vs Noons 2 Press Conference highlights
Today in San Jose, California Strikeforce held its press conference for Saturdays Diaz vs Noons 2 fight card. The fighters from the main card were all here to talk about their upcoming fight plus field any questions that the media has. With the bad blood between Diaz and Noons there is in fact a San Jose police officer in the building.
Weigh-ins will be tomorrow at 4pm at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California. Doors will open at 3:30 are they are open to the public.
Each fighter had a chance to talk before they open the floor to questions, here are some highlights:
Jimmy Lennon jr called up each fighter one at a time, well when he tought he was finished Scott Coker had to tell him that he forgot Josh Thomson and JZ Cavalcante….. Oops
Tyron Woodley is thrilled to be on the big card, calls it a step in the right direction to the title.
- When asked about his wrestling possibly allowing Galvao a chance to use his BJJ skill, Woodley stated he’s planning on striking with him because doesn’t want to wrestle him right into his element.
Marloes Coenen feels good at 135 lbs (first fight at that fight).
Sarah Kaufman wants to fight her fight on Saturday and stick to the game plan.
JZ Cavalcante has much respect for Josh Thomson, thinks he’s a good fighter. Excited about the fight and “Came to fight”
Josh Thomson is not looking past JZ, in fact he is tired of the media bringing up Gilbert Melendez.
- Thomson was asked about JZ and fighter rankings which brought him to laughter. “JZ is better than Ben Henderson” stated Thomson, who thinks JZ is a top five lightweight in the world.
NJ Noons started off by thanking Strikeforce and Scott Coker, he’s excited about the fight and surprisingly thanks Diaz for taking the fight. He added that he respects Diaz and like to watch him fight, they’re just not friends. Also said he feels good and strong at 170 pounds.
Nick Diaz still thinks the stoppage three years ago was too early but says he forgot about it when Noons stopped fighting MMA (Reference to Noons booing). He too is happy that Noons accepted the fight.
- Following Noons telling the media that he loves to fight, Diaz responded by saying he didn’t love to fight but it was more “I have to fight” because “fighting is my life”
Was surprising that both Diaz and Noons were actually respectful towards each other, could have been the two police officers standing on each side of the stage. Check out the pictures from today including fighter face offs by clicking here, pictures will be up shortly.
