After a verbal tussle to her bosses following her last win over Roxanne Modafferi at challenger series 9, Sarah Kaufman (12-0 MMA) gets exactly what she asked for with a co-main event fight on a stacked Showtime card. She has one of the most brutal slam knockouts in MMA over a very tough opponent in her last fight and looks to improve her perfect streak tonight.
Marloes Coenen (17-4 MMA) is a tough seasoned veteran who is coming off a loss for the 145 lbs. title to Christine Cyborg Santos. She is a submission grappling based fighter with 12 wins by submission and 3 by knock out. She is well versed everywhere the fight goes, and even took Cyborg deep into the 3rd round. Oddly enough she is also scheduled to fight just one week after this fight in Amsterdam at Ultimate Glory 12.
Sarah Kaufman (12-0 MMA) is a boxing and Jiu Jitsu based fighter with a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. She likes to strike and has won 9 of her 12 fights by knockout, 3 by decision. She also defeated other top 135 pounders Strikeforce had to offer in Miesha Tate and Roxanne Modafferi. She is queen of her division and sets a very good pace in her fights that is very tough to match.
Keys to the fight:
Marloes will have to use her reach and height to pick apart Sarah on the outside of the pocket. She needs to be in control when it hits the mat or not stay on her back through the rounds. If she can get the submission early she will have to go after it because as this fight winds down Sarah should have the advantage. Sarah needs to be herself, and push the pace around the ring, and score takedowns when it matters. Sarah has all the tools to keep the belt but her opponent has enough to take it away from the champ.
This fight is very important for Miesha Tate, as she won the women’s tournament in Phoenix during the Challengers card granting her the next shot at the belt.
You can catch this matchup along with the rest of the fight card tonight live on Showtime. Check back here for all the undercard results as we will there their live for the complete card, which includes nine undercard fights.
