Time to Give Michael Bisping What he Wants
As Michael Bisping prepared to fight in the UK against Yoshihiro Akiyama, he was talking about wanting a rematch with Wanderlei Silva. Following his unanimous Decision victory over Akiyama at UFC 120 last night, Bisping again brought up wanting a rematch with Silva.
The two originally fought at UFC 110 back in February with Silva winning a close but unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28 and 29-28). Bisping though has argued since the judges scores were read off in Australia that he won that fight, not Silva.
Silva has not fought since UFC 110 after having knee surgery back in July and would be ready to fight again until early in 2011. Bisping came away from his fight last night pretty healthy and could possibly be ready to fight again by year’s end.
So give Bisping what he wants and let him face Silva again.
Bisping has talked about being one “big” fight away from a title shot, but with the current landscape of the division he is more like two fights away. Anderson Silva will face Vitor Belfort at UFC 126 in February of 2011 and the winner of Nate Marquardt and Yushin Okami at UFC 122 will get the next title shot, so at best Bisping couldn’t fight for the belt tell late 2011.
The rematch between Silva and Bisping could happen at the beginning of 2011 and should Bisping get the win, he could find himself in a number one contender fight in mid 2011.
