Fight for the Troops Undercard: Johnson vs Guyman
The undercard fights in the UFC rarely get the viewing attention it deserves, especially for fight fans who want to catch the full show. Lucky for the fans, the UFC has decided to air two preliminary Fight for the Troops bouts on Facebook that would have previously gone unaired.
So let’s show some love for the fight that fans can see on Facebook that has the most riding on it, the DaMarques Johnson vs. Mike Guyman bout. This fight isn’t lopsided but is the most obvious fight for the loser walks fight of the night. Both fighters have two losses in the UFC with streaks of both good and bad aspects in their fights, but both are determined to go big or go home one last time for their fans.
DaMarques Johnson (11-8 MMA) is a boxing and Jiu Jitsu based fighter out of Elite Performance in Utah. He was a contestant on season 9 where he was the favorite to win the season but failed to come through on the finale with a win. He was offered a multi fight contract anyway and bounced back with two stoppages in his next two fights. When he stepped up in competition to fight a powerhouse wrestler in Matt Riddle he was defeated in the second round via TKO. Johnson has always been a huge fan draw for his good personality and exciting fighting style.
Mike Guymon (12-4-1 MMA) is a Mixed Martial Arts fighter out of Jokers gym in California who trains among the likes of Mark Munoz, and James Wilks. He has fought some stiff talent on his path to The UFC but has always gone out swinging, trying to make the fight exciting for the fans. He has had a troubled personal life but has been able to push through it to become a better fighter. He makes for a great opponent for Johnson and the fight is very intriguing on many different levels.
Keys to the fight: Guymon will most likely be shooting and trying to break Johnson down early by putting him on his back and delivering some tough ground and pound or use the clinch to wear Johnson down. Johnson will be looking to space things out with his reach and lengthy striking and if this goes to the mat a slick submission could come by way of Johnson’s favorite submission, the triangle choke.
