Danillo Villefort Headlines Shark Fights 14
Former UFC fighters are set to clash at Shark Fights 14 tomorrow on HDNet as Danillo Villefort takes on Matt Horwich in the headlining bout on the card.
Villefort (12-3) was born into a family of legends. His father, Francisco Silva, was a Vale Tudo legend and his god-father is Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. Fighting has been something that he and his father both shared. Villefort is known for his post-fight celebration where he shoots an invisible arrow at his defeated opponent. For Villefort, it is a way of paying tribute to his father.
Villefort began his mixed martial arts career in Brazil. After making a name for himself there, he moved his career to the United States which eventually landed him a fight in the IFL. While with the IFL, Villefort took on Mike Massenzio and won via Kneebar submission.
Following the win, Villefort was brought under the Zuffa banner and set to make his WEC debut against Jake Rosholt. Rosholt was forced to pull out of the fight due to injury and the WEC eventually disbanded their middleweight division. The loss of a division in the WEC caused Villefort to make the decision to move down to welterweight and took on Mike Campbell. Villefort again walked away the victor, but it was short lived. News broke shortly after that the WEC would do away with the welterweight division. Luckily for him, Villefort found a new home on a bigger stage, the UFC.
Villefort made his UFC debut at UFC 101 against Jesse Lennox. In the end, Villefort would lose via TKO from a cut, though the decision stirred controversy because of an accidental headbutt that was assumed to be the cause. Despite the arguments, the UFC released Villefort following the bout.
Since parting ways with Zuffa, Villefort has picked up three wins in a row. His bout against Horwich will be his second with the promotion and he hopes to earn the win over his seasoned opponent at tomorrow Shark Fights 14.
