Zuffa LLC Purchases Rival Company Strikeforce

With the announcement on Saturday that Zuffa LLC has completed the purchase of rival company Strikeforce, the question on everyone’s mind now is what’s next? With the newest acquisition of Strikeforce, will it to eventually be disbanded like its predecessors Pride and WEC? What will happen to fighters like Dan Henderson and Paul Daley who were recently let go from the UFC?
According to UFC president Dana White in an exclusive interview with Ariel Helwani, Strikeforce will continue to operate “business as usual,” but for how long. White says that Strikeforce will continue to work as two separate organization honoring the current contracts Strikeforce has. Currently Strikeforce has a 2 year contract left with Showtime, plus remaining contracts with M-1 Global so until these contracts have elapsed expect to continue to see Strikeforce on Showtime (Super channel for those of you residing in Canada).
Scott Coker will maintain in his position and continue to run the day-to-day operations of Strikeforce
As for cross promoting “super-fights” between the UFC and Strikeforce. White made it perfectly clear that they do not cross promote so those of you jumping up and down at the thought of Nick Diaz vs. GSP or Fedor vs. Randy Couture, think again. All fighters with current Strikeforce contracts will remain in Strikeforce but it was briefly mentioned that UFC fighters may be sent over to Strikeforce but what that actually mains is open to interpretation. As previously stated Strikeforce will continue to operate (“business as usual”) separately but if you look at the past for reference the Strikeforce banner ripped down at some point and replaced with a UFC banner.
White stated that all Strikeforce contracts will be honored including Paul Daley who was launched out of the company for proving that they could not handle himself in a professional matter, though Daley has come out and said he didn’t want to fight under the Zuffa banner. “Semtex” really doesn’t have many other options, but his April 9th fight with Strikeforce is currently in question.
The unexpected purchase of Strikeforce has brought upon many questions, some of these questions have been answered while some will remain unanswered for now or at least until we see what the future holds for Strikeforce.
