Keith Jardine to Face Gegard Mousasi April 9th
During the Strikeforce Challengers 15 event, it was announced that UFC veteran Keith Jardine has stepped in to replace the injured Mike Kyle against former Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi
Jardine (17-9-1) has not fought under the Zuffa banner since being cut back in June of last year following four straight losses. “The Dean of Mean” became popular on season two of The Ultimate Fighter and his strange style made for exciting fights. Jardine has won two of his last three fights and will look to make the best of fighting on the big stage again.
Mousasi (30-3-1) has also won two in a row coming into this bout. Mousasi was riding a winning streak that lasted four years until it was halted by Muhammed Lawal in their championship fight. Since that loss, Mousasi defeated Jake O’Brien and Tatsuya Mizuno to capture the Dream light heavyweight title. Although a bout against Kyle is what he has been preparing for, expect Mousasi to capitalize on Jardine taking the fight on such short notice.
Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Daley takes place April 9th at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, Calif. Headlining the card is a welterweight title fight between champion Nick Diaz and contender Paul Daley. Also on the card, lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez takes on Tatsuya Kawajiri and Shinya Aoki battles Lyle Beerbohm.
