BAMMA 6 Main Card Starts of Slow, But Ends with a Bang!
The British Association of Mixed Martial Arts held it’s sixth event today at the Wembley Arena in London, England. The 14-bout fight card was topped off with the main card that featured three fights filled with MMA Veterans.
The first fight being streamed of the main card was a middleweight weight between 40 something, Matt Ewin and Ivan Salaverry. Ewin is one fight removed from coming out of retirement, while Salaverry was making his first fight since retiring three years ago. Both fighters looked as if they were recently retired and really didn’t do too much, which brought out the boo-birds early and often in the fight. Ewin did look slightly better than Salaverry and would take the unanimous decision.
Next up was the UFC veteran Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg taking on the up and coming John “The white Mike Tyson” Phillips. Trigg quickly took the fight to the ground and opens up a cut on the forehead of Phillips with some nice elbows. The blood from what turned out to be a couple cuts was everywhere. Trigg moved to side control and continued to punish his opponent until the referee stops the fight to have the cuts looked at. The Doctor doesn’t like the look of the deep cut above the left eyebrow and waves the fight over. The win was Trigg’s first via elbows and now gives him two wins in a row.
The main event of the night was a middleweight title fight between the BAMMA champion Tom Watson and the Pride Veteran Murilo Rua. The champion came out with great boxing and some vicous leg kicks that set the tone of the fight. Rua had no answer for the kick to the lead leg by Watson and the damage begins to show in round two. Having trouble putting weight on the leg Rua started to favor that leg and that’s when Watson started throwing the high kick. Dropped earlier from a head kick. Watson would land another head kick in the third round and follow it up with two more shots as Rua goes down. The referee steps in and stops the fight at the same time Rua’s corner throws in the towel. Watson retains his title with a impressive win over Rua who would later announce his retirement from Mixed Martial Arts.
