Donald Cerrone Continues to Impress
Donald Cerrone improved his record to 15-3 last night in an excellent display of striking against the tough Vagner Rocha. Though many fans criticized his lack of a finish of the world-class jiu-jitsu artist Rocha, who proved his grit hobbling on one limb but was clearly outmatched.
Cerrone used leg kicks and a quick jab to keep away from the early onslaught of takedowns and even though he heavily damaged Rocha in the first round coach Jackson kept the press on Cerrone telling him they both won one round a piece. Cerrone tried to finish in the third dropping Rocha multiple times and controlling the third from bell to bell. Cerrone won a unanimous decision and brought his win streak to four and is now ready for the upper half of the lightweight division.
Three fights stand out for Cerrone as possible future matchups that would be an easy sell.
Anthony Pettis is coming off a tough fought loss to Guida but a matchup with Cerrone could easily be slated for fight of the year once it hits the fight card. The pre fight hype in a line up with Nate Diaz would create a Varner situation all over again with two guys not willing to hold back words before they met in the cage. Sam Stout was on a tear with a huge knockout on the same night’s card but could fall victim to a slick submission form Cerrone off his back making it another interesting matchup for the fans.
No matter who Joe Silva lines up for Cerrone next it promises to be an exciting fight like always and we will continue to see Cerrone improve on his way up the food chain.
