A matchup between the former IFL heavyweight standout Ben Rothwell and the former K-1 fighter Mark Hunt is reportedly in the works for UFC 135. The card is expected to take place at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado on September 24th.
Both fighters are coming off recent UFC wins, but their 1-1 record inside the Octagon puts them in the preverbal hot seat.
Rothwell (31-7) is coming off a unanimous decision victory over Gilbert Yvel at UFC 115 in which he tore his ACL and suffered a deviated septum. The injuries will have kept him out of action for over 15 months when steps in against the New Zealander.
Hunt (6-7) got his first win in nearly five years when he knocked out Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 127. The victory broke a six fight losing streak that included losses to Josh Barnett, Alistair Overeem and Fedor Emelianenko (for the Pride HW title).
UFC 135 is currently taking shape and is tentatively scheduled to be headlined by a light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
