Ryan Couture looks to continue undefeated streak
Ryan Couture, the son of UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture, will step back into the cage as he takes on fellow undefeated prospect, Matt Ricehouse. The Fight will be featured on the televised portion of the Strikeforce Challengers series, this friday, June 24th. The Main event on the night will feature lightweights, Caros Fedor taking on James Terry.
Compiling a 5-1-1 record before making his pro debut, Couture has been featured on two of the Strikeforce Challengers cards, making his debut back at Strikeforce Challengers: Riggs vs Taylor, winning in just 75 seconds via Triangle Choke against Luke Stark. His second fight in the promotion lasted a bit longer against Lee Higgins in February, with Couture winning via another submission, this time via Rear Naked Choke in the 3rd round.
Matt Ricehouse brings a 4-0 professional record, with two of his wins coming under the Strikeforce banner, winning via submission at Strikeforce Heavy Artillery and by decision at Strikeforce: Henderson vs Babalu, with both fights being on the undercard.
Carrying his father’s name hasn’t deterred the young upstart Couture, who has impressed both fans and media alike in both of his wins. Being the son of the Legendary Randy Couture, Ryan has had a good amount of fan fare surrounding his amateur and now his early pro career. It seems to not have affected the young fighter thus far in his career, showcasing improving striking and submission skills in his early victories.
One more test stands in his way, against the hard-hitting Ricehouse, but with another victory, Ryan Couture could be setting the building blocks for his own future, and possibly take another step and forming his own shadow.
