Kicking off the Summer Series: Bellator 46 Featherweight Quarterfinal Results
The inaugural summer series kicked off tonight with Bellator 46 from the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. Eight featherweights stepped into the Bellator cage, each looking to get one step closer to tournament finals and a shot at title.
Eight entered the cage but when the night ended there would only be four featherweights remaining. Ronnie Mann and Pat Curran made short work of their opponents, while Nazareno Malegarie tried multiple times before finally locking in a late submission. Marlon Sandro made his US and Bellator debut a successful one, even though one judge didn’t think so.
The quarterfinal round was full of action from start to finish and a sign of things to come at next month’s Bellator 47.
Ronnie Mann vs. Adam Schindler – Ronnie Mann by 1st rd. KO
The clean striking of Mann was the difference in the fight as Schindler came in wildly and was picked apart throughout.
Nazareno Malegarie vs. Jacob DeVree - Nazareno Malegarie by 3rd rd. Submission (Guillotine)
Malegarie came out on a mission to submit Jacob Devree and though he didn’t get him to tap on the first 10 or 15 tries, he finally got him to in the third.
Marlon Sandro vs. Genair da Silva – Marlon Sandro by Split Decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28)
Sandro didn’t overly impress in his US and Bellator debut but he clearly out pointed Genair da Silva, even though one judge saw it differently.
Pat Curran vs. Luis Palomino – Pat Curran by 1st rd. Submission (Peruvian necktie)
Curran looked impressive against Palimino making the Peruvian oddly enough tap to a Peruvian necktie submission
Looking forward to Bellator 47:
Following the event the match-ups for the semifinal round of the tournament were announced. Pat Curran will take on Ronnie Mann and Nazareno Malegarie will face Marlon Sandro.
