Earlier this week, Phil Davis injured his knee and was forced out of the main event at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, PA on August 8th. Tito Ortiz stepped in and took that fight to save the main event. Now, the co main event has been stricken as Antonio Rogerio Nogueira has been forced off the card with an undisclosed injury.
“Diet Nog” was scheduled to meet Rich Franklin in the co main event and now the UFC must scramble to try and find yet another replacement in for a high profile fight on this card. Vladirmir Matyushenko was in consideration to move up if Tito was unable to fill in for Phil Davis, so perhaps he will get the opportunity here as well. Chael Sonnen and Chris Leben both called Dana White about filling in for the injured Davis, so expect one of both to again toss their hats in the ring.
It will be interesting to see what happens here as Rich Franklin is still a big draw and you’d hate to lose him from this card. Joe Silva will be burning the midnight oil in the next few nights trying to find a suitable replacement.
MMA Valor will have further info when the UFC chooses a replacement fighter.
