Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles on tap for UFC 139
Coming off the first ever fight to go to the judges’ scorecards, Brian Bowles will step back into the Octagon against Urijah Faber at UFC 139 in November. Both fighters last fought at UFC 132 earlier this month, Bowles defeating Takeya Mizugaki and Faber losing a unanimous decision to Dominick Cruz.
Bowles (10-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) had hoped he win over Mizugaki would have earned him a title shot and rematch against Dominick Cruz. Instead he’ll get the former featherweight champion Faber in what is likely a No. 1 contender match.
Faber (25-5 MMA, 1-1 UFC) lost his title fight to Dominick Cruz at UFC 132 in a closely contested fight that many thought warranted a third fight between the two. The “California kid” will once again fight in his home state, where he has fought 18 times in his career.
Both fighters have their sites on Dominick Cruz and the bantamweight belt around his waist, but they will need to focus on each other in order to get that shot. Both are also former WEC champions and when these two clash there will be a championship atmosphere in the air.
UFC 139 is expected to take place Nov. 19th at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California and will be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champ Cain Velasquez and top contender Junior Dos Santos.
