On a night where former champions were victorious and defeated, others made steps closer to their dreams of getting a title shot, one fighter retired from MMA and another showed us all that speedos NEVER belong inside the octagon. A lot went down in the city of brotherly love on Saturday night; here are the “Winners & Losers” from UFC 133.

Rashad Evans: WINNER

Being out of the cage for fifteen months, missing title shots promised, betrayed, injured and had multiple opponent replacements for his bout, the odds were truly stacked against the Ultimate Fighter winner. Coming out strong and focused, he was relentless in his dominant finish of Tito Ortiz, giving him the title shot against nemesis Rampage Jackson or former friend (now eternal foe) Jon Jones, depending the outcome of UFC 135 in September.

Brian Ebersole: WINNER

Hairrow! The Aussie racked his ninth consecutive win with a TKO victory of his banana hammock opponent, Dennis Hallman in the first round. Add to the victory was $70k by Dana White for “getting those trunks off the air fast” bonus, the welterweight is looking to get a bigger name in his next outing, perhaps against fellow welterweight winner from the event, Rory MacDonald?

Rory MacDonald: WINNER

The 22 yr old TriStar prodigy dispensed another opponent in TKO fashion this weekend and has many comparing him to training partner GSP. Although humble in the accolades, MacDonald is not scared to fight whomever and requested a rematch from the only man to beat him, Carlos Condit. Picking up the TKO victory over Mike Pyle, it is safe to say he should be matched up against a top ten fighter, in his next outing – Josh Koscheck would be a sensible matchup.

Mike Brown: WINNER

The former WEC featherweight champion got a notch back in the win column against TUF fighter, Nam Phan. While the unanimous decision may not have been the most the defining moment in Brown’s career it did show he is focused and hopefully back to winning ways.

Tito Ortiz: LOSER

The Huntington Beach Bad Boy was on the top of the world, only to be brought back down quickly (and violently) in his loss this weekend. Riding a resurgence of fame, fans and attention – it seemed smart to take such a high-profile fight in a quick turnaround. Waiting for his next fight to be announced, we can only hope he uses the same focus and maturity he has shown recently to get back in the cage on a path to a world title he so desperately wants.

Yoshihiro Akiyama: LOSER

Entering the UFC in 2010, riding a thirteen fight win streak and waging war with Alan Belcher to a decision victory, many fans saw “Sexyama” as the man to challenge Anderson Silva for the middleweight crown. Now with three consecutive losses (submission to Leben, decision to Bisping) and recently KO to Vitor Belfort, the days of his UFC career may be in the balance. When speaking with Ariel Helwani after the fight, Dana White said this about the judoka – “I love Akiyama, I love how he fights every time but I have always said, 170 is where he needs to be. We will see what he does but I think he could kill it at 170.”

Dennis Hallman: LOSER

You don’t come into a fight wearing speedos. As a joke it was originally meant to be, nobody (especially Ebersole) was laughing when his junk fell out in the fight. Dana White was especially angered with UFC personnel who cleared that gear to be worn; it will be interesting to see if the welterweight will be in the octagon again – and what trunks he decides to wear

Matt Hamill: LOSER

The most inspirational story in UFC to date, the deaf Olympic wrestler proved everyone wrong by steam rolling thru house mates on the show, only to remove himself from the competition due to injuries. Going on to fight some of the best in the game today, he has lost two in a row and decided it was time to hang up the gloves. Leaving with a 10-4 record and the only man to (technically) defeat Jon Jones, we all wish the best of luck to Hamill in whatever he does from here.

Vitor Belfort: STALEMATE

A win over an opponent like Akiyama is good but does not warrant a title shot, regardless if you request it in the post fight with Joe Rogan. “The Phenom” will need to do a little more than dust off a losing streak fighter to warrant another shot, especially since the last outing saw him getting a foot to the face knockout. Let him beat the winner of Munoz/ Leben and then we’ll talk
