Three Brazilians to keep you eye on at UFC 134
In returning to Brazil, the UFC has obviously stacked the UFC 134 card with Brazilian fighters, 14 of them to be exact. The 12 bout card is dominated by top Brazilian talent from the undercard to the main event. With names like Anderson Silva, Mauricio Rua, Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and Edson Barboza on the main card, its easy to overlook the talent on the undercard.
The UFC 134 undercard, which will air on Facebook and Spike TV hold the majority of the Brazilians fighters with nine. It is here that you’ll find the undiscovered Brazilian talent flying under the radar of most here in the states. While the known talent is at the top of the card, look to the undercard for threee names fans will be talking about on Sunday.
Yuri Alcantara (25-3) – Alcantara is coming off a first round knockout victory over Ricardo Lamas at WEC 53. The former Jungle Fight lightweight champion will be making his featherweight debut against fellow Brazilian Felipe Arantes. Currently on an 11 fight winning streak, Alcantara has 23 finishes (11 (T) KO’s, 12 Submissions) in his 25 career victories and he’s only gone the distance three times overall.
Erick Silva (11-1, 1nc) – The “other” Silva on the card, Erick Silva was originally schedule to take on Mike Swick but will now be facing fellow Brazilian Luis Ramos. Silva is coming off two submission wins at Jungle Fight 23 in October to capture the Jungle fight welterweight title. A Black Belt in BJJ and Judo, Silva has recorded seven submission wins, all but one via choke.
Johnny Eduardo (25-8) – The most experienced of the three, Eduardo was recently signed by the UFC and will take on ZUFFA veteran and fellow Brazilian, Raphael Assuncao. Eduardo will have a tough task ahead of him with Assuncao, but he also might have caught him at the perfect time. Assuncao has lost three of his last four fights and will be making his bantamweight debut at UFC 134. It will be a tough battle, but a winnable one for Eduardo and his current 11 fight winning streak.
