UFC 139 beginning to Take Shape, Adds Kingsbury vs. Bonnar
Following the recent addition of Ricky Story vs. Martin Kampmann and the rumored addition of Josh Koscheck to the UFC 139, light heavyweights Kyle Kingsbury and Stephan Bonnar were added today. UFC 139 will take place in San Jose, California on November 19 at the HP Pavilion and is expected to be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champion Cain Velasquez and Junior Dos Santos
Bonnar (13-7 MMA) has not fought since December of 2010 when he defeated Igor Pokrajac by unanimous decision. The win gave The Ultimate Fighter season 1 runner-up back to back wins after being on a three skid. Bonnar’s overall UFC record of 7-6 doesn’t look pretty but when you look down the names he’s lost two it doesn’t look so ugly either.
Kyle Kingsbury (11-2 MMA) was a cast member of the eighth season of The Ultimate Fighter, making it to the second round before losing to the eventual winner, Ryan Bader. After losing his UFC debut against Tom Lawlor in the finale, Kingsbury has reeled off four consecutive wins Razak Al-Hassan, Jarred Hamman, Ricardo Romero and Fabio Maldonado.
Bonnar is a fan favorite for the brawling style he’s shown numerous times, but is his deceptive Jiu-Jitsu that Kingsbury will need to watch out for. Kingsbury might not be able to out slug the slugger but he’ll hold the advantage should he choose to wrestle with Bonnar.
With three “fight of the night” honors between the two, these match-up has all the makings for number four.
