Donald Cerrone Steps in for Stout, Faces Dennis Siver at UFC 137

One of the major advantages of having a deep roster like the UFC was once again proven today. Just hours after it was announced that Sam Stout withdrew from his bout with Dennis Siver, the UFC was announcing that Donald Cerrone had stepped in to face Siver at UFC 137 in October.

Stout (17-6-1) withdrew from the event for “undisclosed reasons” but the Canadian recently suffered a tragedy with the death of his brother-in-law and trainer, Shawn Tompkins. Whether or not this was the reason for withdrawing is unclear though.

Cerrone (16-3) has already fought three times this year and his fourth bout this year will be the third time “The Cowboy” has stepped in for an injured fighter. At 3-0 in the UFC and a winner of five in a row, the stock of Cerrone has never been higher. He now finds himself in a fight against a lightweight on the outer edge of title contention.

Siver (19-7) will come into UFC 137 on a four fight winning streak with an 8-1 overall record in his last nine fights. During that time Siver has collected four “Fight Night” bonuses and has wins over Paul Kelly, Spencer Fisher, George Sotiropoulos and Matt Wiman.

UFC 137 takes place Oct. 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The night’s main event, which will air on pay-per-view, features a welterweight title fight between Georges St-Pierre and Nick Diaz.
