Shark Fights Headliner, Chris Camozzi back in the UFC
The Ultimate Fighter season 11 participant, Chris Camozzi, was training for his upcoming main event against Matt Lucas at Shark Fights 20. A phone call from his manager with a new fight offer would change all that for the Colorado native. Instead of fighting in Laughlin, Nevada on October 15th, Camozzi will now fight in Las Vegas on October 29th at UFC 137.
After one fight away from the Ultimate Fighting Championship, Camozzi (15-4) returns to face promotional newcomer Francis Carmont (16-7).Their bout will be part of the events undercard that will likely stream on Facebook.
Camozzi was 2-1 in the UFC and after a first round submission loss to Kyle Noke at UFC 127 he was given his walking papers. He returns to the UFC following a controversial split decision win over Joey Villasenor at Shark Fights 15. Their bout was originally ruled a split draw, but I was later overturned by the New Mexico Athletic Commission due to one of the judges scores being added incorrectly.
Carmont is a training partner of the UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre and comes in with a five fight winning streak. The five fights before that the 29 year-old Carmont was just 2-3 but he seems to have turned things around a long two-year layoff.
As for Shark Fights, they loss one half of their main event and now have just over a month to find a replacement. Their website still shows Camozzi in the main event but that obviously has changed.
