Up Next for Junior Dos Santos, Knee Surgery!
Coming off the biggest win of his career at last night’s UFC on FOX, the newly crowd UFC heavyweight champion Junior Dos Santos will need knee surgery before steeping back into the Octagon. After knocking out Cain Velasquez in just 64 seconds we quickly learned that the Brazilian had injured his knee just 11 days prior to the fight.
The diagnosis was a torn meniscus to the left knee that was suffered during jiu-jitsu training just a week and a half before his title shot. According to the Doctor for Dos Santos, who was on hand for the fight, he’ll need surgery to repair the tear which should take a month recovery time.
When the champ will have the surgery has yet to be determined, but with Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem fighting at the end of December expect sooner rather than later.
A knee for a knee…..
Dos Santos wasn’t the only one with a hidden knee injury. Velasquez apparently also suffered a knee injury during training and kept it a secret from nearly everyone. Despite nothing coming from the Velasquez camp, UFC announcer Joe Rogan said he knew for a fact that Velasquez had in fact suffered a sprained knee before the fight.
