Bellator 59 Bold Predictions
Bellator’s season five has been one of the greatest for the promotion and it will come to a close at this Saturday’s Bellator 58 event in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Coming off last weekend’s exciting lightweight championship main event that saw Michael Chandler defeat Eddie Alvarez, the guys on Saturday’s card have a tough act to follow.
The two remaining tournaments of the season will close out the main card with two new championship contenders being crowned in the heavyweight and bantamweight division. They will move onto the face Cole Konrad (Heavyweight) and Zach Makovsky, who will each be making their first title defense.
Rounding out the main card are two former UFC fighters in separate lightweight bouts. After a brief retirement Kurt Pellegrino will step back into the cage to face the season four tournament runner-up Patricky “pitbull” Freire. Opening the main card will be TUF 8 runner-up Phillipe Nover making his Bellator debut against Poland’s Marcin Held.
A bout between Lyman Good and Michael Costa was supposed to be on the main card until an injury forced Costa off the card and the fight was scrapped.
Main Card (MTV2):
265 lbs. Tournament Final bout: Thiago Santos will defeat Eric Prindle by 1st rd Submission
- Don’t blink for this one cause it going to last long. Prindle is going to come out swinging and after the early barrage Santos will get the fight to the ground. Once there it’s just a matter of time before the Brazilian has Prindle tapping out.
135 lbs. Tournament Final bout: Alexis Vila will defeat Eduardo Dantas by 2nd rd. KO
- Both these fighters won in the semifinals by razor close split decisions and they will be looking to stay away from the judges here. Vila will use his Olympic wrestling to keep this fight standing and at some point is going to land the big punch on Dantas, like in the 2nd round.
155 lbs.: Patricky Freire will defeat Kurt Pellegrino by Unanimous Decision
- With both fighters being BJJ black belts expect the fight to be decided on the fight where Freire has the advantage. Pellegrino will hold his own but will be out pointed by the heavy-handed Freire, resulting in him losing his third in a row.
155 lbs.: Phillipe Nover will defeat Marcin Held by split decision
- What’s a current fight card without a close split decision, so this fight draws (pun intended) the short straw. Neither of the fighter’s will end up taking control of the fight and when the judges turn in their scorecards fans will have no clue who will win until the referee raises Nover’s hand.
Local Card (Spike.com):
180 lbs.: Karl Amoussou will defeat Jesus Martinez
185 lbs.: Brandon Saling will defeat Gregory Milliard
145 lbs.: Brylan Van Artsdalen will defeat Scott Heckman
170 lbs.: Christopher Wing will defeat LeVon Maynard
175 lbs.: Lucas Pimenta Borges will defeat Doug Gordon
