Cage Rage Presents UKMMA 25 Preview
Barely eight weeks ago, Jimi ‘The Posterboy’ Manuwa bulldozed through his opponent Nick ‘The Headhunter’ Chapman finishing him off in just over ninety seconds and had Cage Rage fans wondering how organizers would top that for their final event of 2011. Well, UKMMA 25 – The Beat Down presented by Cage Rage is now a matter of days away and Cage Rage top man Dave O’Donnell has pulled together a fight card that will see one of the UK’s premier MMA events sign off for 2011 in explosive style.
Heading up the night is the middleweight bout between Denniston Sutherland and Jake ‘Brutal’ Bostwick, a fight British MMA fans have been waiting for ever since their first meeting in February 2010 ended with a controversial split decision in favour of Bostwick. While Sutherland isn’t talking this fight up as a revenge bout, there is a hint of bitterness in his voice which indicates that the Jamaican born fighter doesn’t intend to give up his title to Bostwick and certainly doesn’t intend on leaving his fate in the hands of the judges this time around.
While there is no doubt the Bostwick/Sutherland rematch is the one fight fans have been waiting for, organizers have ensured there is enough quality on both the main and undercard to keep punters in their seats until the main event.
As always, organizers have packed the undercard with some of the rising MMA talent in the UK with the likes of Carl Hunt, Sam Boo and Huseyin Garabet all keen to make their presence felt. Further up the undercard all eyes will surely be on Nathan Greyson who takes on Steve Brazier and, with Greyson being mentored by Jimi ‘The Posterboy’ Manuwa, you can expect big things from this fighter in the next twelve months.
On the subject of fighters to watch in 2012, Iain Martell makes his return to Cage Rage in December after his recent win in the Dominican Republic. With John Maguire making the step up to UFC following his recent bout with Peter Irving, expectations are high that Martell will at some point over the next eighteen months be following him onto the big stage. His brutal, relentless fight style has won him many fans across the UK MMA scene making his Light Heavyweight battle with Earl Brown a must to watch.
Having been beaten by Denniston Sutherland at UCMMA 21 earlier in the year, Gloucester based fighter Mark Weir will be wanting to put things right. However, standing in his way is Louis King, one of the rising stars of UK MMA. With Weir’s K1 Middleweight title at stake, you can be sure he won’t be giving up his crown easily however, with King finishing off his opponents for fun, Weir will have to make sure he is on top of his game for this one.
Big Ben Smith is a regular on the Cage Rage fight card and, after a couple of bloody, brutal fights has made the decision to drop down a weight class to Light Heavyweight. With three losses and only one win under his belt in 2011, Smith must be hoping to get his fight record back on track with a win again Joe Cooper before kicking on for an improved 2012.
Cage Rage 25 – The Beatdown takes place at The Troxy in London on 3rd December 2011 and tickets are available via http://www.cagerageuk.com
