| December 11, 2011 | 1 Reply

Last night from the Alameda County Fair Grounds in Pleasanton, California was IMPACT MMA: Recognition. The inaugural event from the tri-valley base promotion went off without a hitch, bringing 10 professional Mixed Martial Arts bouts to 2,000+ eager fans long starved for live MMA.

The 20 fighters were from many of the local gyms in the area, including CSA, AKA and Team Alpha Male. The fighters brought their “A” game and represented their gym inside the IMPACT MMA cage proudly.

Fight Card:

1 – 170 lbs.: Jared Hess defeat Tallis Lymuel by 1st rd. Submission (Rear Naked Choke)

  • Hess gets early takedown and begins dropping elbows on Lymuel. Hess moves to side control, goes for an armbar and loses the position. The two briefly stand but Hess gets the fight right back down to the canvas. From there he moves to the back on Lymuel and muscles a rear naked choke submission.

2 – 170 lbs.: Davin Clark defeated Rich Rigmaden by 1st rd Submission (Side Choke)

  • Its kicks early from Rigmaden until Clark gets the takedown, drops a few elbows before ending up in full mount. From there he gets the arm in and locks in the side choke, another early submission to start out the night.

3 – 265 lbs.: Carl Seumanutafa defeated CJ Leveque by 1st rd. TKO

  • Leveque clinches and puts Seumanutafa against the cage but it’s Seumanutafa who gets the takedown right into side control. The big guys moves to mount and punishes Leveque, forcing him to give up his back. Seumanutafa flattens out Laveque and drops heavy pound and pound, bloodying up his opponent and stopping the fight.

4 – 205 lbs.: Marcel Fortuna defeated Sean Pierre by Unanimous Decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27)

  • Pierre is controlling the center on the cage until Fortuna rushes and grabs the clinch, Pierre reverses and the two break. Pierre is working the lead leg of Fortuna with loud right leg kicks. Fortuna clinches again after failing for a takedown. Pierre fails in his spinning back kick attempt and Fortuna ends the round backing his opponent up. The first fight to enter the second round starts out with a flurry, a clinch and a takedown from Fortune. Pierre quickly gets back to his feet though and the two are once again against the cage. Pierre seems to have stopped the leg kicks so that he doesn’t get taken down but he is dishing out a higher output of strikes. Final round opens with Pierre attacking that lead leg again but Fortuna secures a takedown. Pierre does a great job of getting back up and goes back to the lead leg. Both fighters are trying to end this fight, though the gas tanks might not be there to accomplish that. Late in the round Fortuna clinches and gets a takedown that might have sealed the fight in the judge’s mind.

5 – 205 lbs.: Omar Kasti defeated Andres Salas by 1st rd. Submission (Side Choke)

  • Salas clinches but its Kasti that gets the fight to the ground; from there he easily moves to side control and locks in a side choke. Just like that Salas is tapping out, fight over.

6 – 170 lbs.: Ron Keslar defeated James Chaney by 1sr rd. TKO (Doctor Stoppage)

  • Keslar wastes no time in putting Chaney against the cage from some inside knees. Chaney reveres and goes for a takedown but it’s Keslar that ends up on top. Keslar has one on Chaney’s hands tied up and is dropping left hands to the face. In full guard Keslar in dropping elbows relentlessly that opens up the forehead of Chaney. Between rounds the doctor looks at the face of Chaney and stops the fight.

Intermission:

During the break local stars, Paul Buentello, Kyle Kingsbury, Josh Thomson, along with IMPACT MMA Vice President Danny Kelly and President Tommy Rojas got interviewed by Lisa King.

7 – 145 lbs.: Neo Lahat defeated Rodney Rhoden by 2nd rd. TKO

  • Lahat pressures Rhoden against the cage and gets the takedown. He really doesn’t score much and losses position while trying to advance. Lots of scrambles as the two exchange top position. Round one ends and Rhoden has a cut along the bridge along his nose. Right away the two clinch and Rhoden missed with a wild right hand. Rhoden is cut now near the right eye (likely from a headbutt) as Lahat is taking over punishing Rhoden with knees. While still in the clinch the referee abruptly stops the fight.

8 – 135 lbs.: Jeremiah Labiano defeated Derrick Easterling by 2nd rd. TKO

  • Easterling stuns Labiano early, backing him up against the cage. Easterling is trying hard for the takedown with little luck as Labiano is defending it well. Labiano breaks free and unloads a flurry of strikes, braking up his opponent. Against the cage Labiano gets a takedown and unleashes some ground and pound that has Easterling’s face a mess. Labiano comes out strong in round two forcing Eastling to clinch but that didn’t last too long. Labiano turns him and continues the beating until the referee had seen enough and waves the fight over.

9- 125 lbs.: Hector Alex Sandoval defeated Taylor McCoriston by Unanimous Decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-29)

  • Right away McCoriston ends up on his back, he gets up but Sandoval gets a real takedown to put him right on his back again. Not much damage from Sandoval but the majority of the round would be spent with him in full guard. Sandoval puts an exclamation point on the round with a later flurry and takedown before the bell. Sandoval opens the second round with another takedown and even though McCoriston is getting back up, Sandoval is constantly pressuring him. Heading into the final round, Sandoval is winning the fight but appears to be getting tired. Sandoval gets another takedown but is unable to keep it there for more the a few seconds. Late in the fight the two are showing signs of fatigue but when they unleash the strikes it’s all out. When the fight ends McCoriston appears to have injured his right leg/ankle.

Main Event:

10 – 205 lbs.: Roy Boughton defeated Jeremy Freitag by 2nd rd. TKO

  • Boughton draws first blood with a takedown but he is unable to control Freitag and he gets up. Boughton fails in his standing guillotine attempt but keep keeps the fight against the cage. Freitag tries to muscle a reversal but Broughton ends up in full mount before moving to side control. Freitag turtles up and slowly stands up, eating a knee while doing so. Like round one, Boughton gets the fight to the ground, posturing up and dropping big elbows to the forehead. Boughton moves to side control and looks for a kimura, it’s not there but he continues on top. He easily moves to mount where Freitag gives up his back. From there Boughton continues to throw until the fight comes to an end via TKO.

Tommy Rojas, Danny Kelly, Beth Moore and Ralph Kelly put on a great event and they will be back to the Alameda County Fair Grounds in March of 2012. Below you’ll find pictures from the event….

Been an MMA fan since TUF season one (play catch up all the time) and the obsession started to grow like a weed and as the sport grows so does the love for the sport. I’m a jack of all trades, a very organized person that rides an emotional roller coaster daily.

This was awesome! Anyone who has a true appreciation for the sport of Mixed Martial Arts will be sad if they miss the March 3rd fight night. IMPACT MMA has a vision that people in California who love the MMA will love and not want to miss.

The card was AWESOME!!! Even the fights that ended early were awesome fights!
