Jamie Varner vs. Drew Fickett set to Headline XFC 16: High Stakes
Former WEC lightweight champion Jamie Varner will make his first appearance of 2012 on February 10th as half of the XFC 16: High Stakes main event. His opponent standing across from him will be the veteran of over 50 fights, Drew Fickett.
Xtreme Fighting Championship announced the bout yesterday on their Facebook and Varner later confirmed it via his twitter account. XFC 16: High Stakes takes place from the Knoxville Civic Auditorium-Coliseum from Knoxville, TN and will air live on HDNet.
Varner (18-6-1, 2 nc) is coming off a quick knock out win against Nate Jolly at XFC 14 back in October. Since losing his WEC lightweight title to Ben Henderson at WEC 46, Varner has only won two fights with a 2-4-1 record during that time. Varner has been wrestling internally with his commitment and or desire to continue fighting but that seemed to change after his last bout.
Fickett (41-16) seems to be either hot or cold inside the ring/cage. After going 2-8 in just over a one year period between August of 2008 and August of 2009, Fickett appeared done. After an eight month layoff Fickett returned to action and won his next five fights in a row, all via submission. Fickett now finds himself on another cold streak that has him currently on a three fight losing streak.
Both fighters are talented but what the fans will actually see out of these two is a mystery.
