Things are getting Ugly between Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone
If Donald Cerrone wasn’t already fired up for his fight this Friday against Nate Diaz he surely is after today UFC 141 pre-fight press conference. After the fighters fielded questions from media and fans they squared off for the traditional face-off. That’s when things got a bit ugly.
As media cameras were going off in the background the two lightweights stood toe to toe, jawing back and forth. Diaz then knocked off the “Cowboy’s” hat and pushed him back as the UFC president squeezed in between the two.
“He was trying to tip his hat into my face and I’m no punk who will take that,” Diaz said afterwards. “He was mumbling some stupid crap about me needing to bring it. He don’t even believe what he’s saying. He’s trying to find confidence from somewhere. I will knock something else off his head Friday.”
Nate, along with his brother Nick are no strangers to stare down altercations as Nick and BJ Penn got into it briefly during the UFC 137 weigh-ins. The Diaz brothers have always tried to get into their opponent’s head with trash talking and the occasional thuggish outburst.
The hat flip and push didn’t seem to faze Cerrone one bit though and he would later say, “I’m not getting paid to fight today. I get paid on Friday when it counts. Let’s see if he’s brave enough to swat my hat off on Friday. Let’s see if he even comes close. Today, I acted like a professional. Friday, I’m gonna make him pay.”
And to think the two have to face off again during today’s weigh-ins.
Cerrone has had a great year thus far, going 4-0 with three fight night bonuses in the UFC and has won six in a row overall. A perfect five win year would position the “Cowboy” for a title run in 2012 and a possibly shot against the winner of the UFC 144 lightweight title fight between Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson.
The UFC 141 co-main event were many people’s pre-fight pick for “Fight of the Night” and as the two head into Friday they all only fueling that fire.
