Brian Stann to face Alessio Sakara in Sweden
Two middleweights looking to regroup from losses will face off at the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s first trip into Sweden for the UFC on FUEL 2. Division contender and former WEC champion Brian Stann (11-4) will face the oft-injured Alessio Sakara (15-8) in what is expected to be the night’s main event.
The bout, which was first reported by the Swedish site mmanytt.se and later confirmed by the UFC, will take place on April 14 at Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm.
Before his loss to Chael Sonnen at UFC 136, Stann had won three straight since dropping down to middleweight. He’d also won five of his last six fights, including stoppage wins over Mike Massenzio, Chris Leben and Jorge Santiago. The former Marine had found himself on the cusp of a title shot before the second round submission loss to Sonnen back in October.
The heavy-handed Sakara returned to action last march after nearly a year off due to injuries and illness to suffer a unanimous decision loss to Chris Weidman. He’s also came into that fight on a three fight winning streak but injuries had limited him to only fighting once a year from 2009 through 2011.
Both men are primarily stand up strikers so expect some action as these two middleweight take the Octagon.
