The Aftermath of Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine
The dust has settled from Saturday’s Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine card in Las Vegas and despite some questionable decisions from the judges and referee’s, the fighters put on a show for the fans in attendance. Things started out with four undercard bouts premiering on Showtime Extreme which lead into the night’s five card main event on Showtime.
The main event featured a middleweight title fight and four other fights, each with potential title shot implications.
170 lbs.: Tarec Saffiedine defeated Tyler Stinson by Split Decision
“It was a tough fight. I’m glad I got the win and I’ll be back soon,” said Saffiedine following the tough decision win. It won’t be that soon though! The Conventional thought was the winner of this fight would earn themselves a shot at the vacant welterweight title but a broken left arm might damper that. While Saffiedine won the fight but even in defeat Stinson really impressed and is a welcomed addition to the then Strikeforce welterweight division.
170 lbs.: Tyron Woodley defeated Jordan Mein by Split Decision
“I thought it should have been a unanimous decision,” said Woodley and he wasn’t the only one that though that. It was typical Woodley using his strong wrestling along with just enough action to keep the referee from standing them up. “I guess I need to get better off my back. I failed to stop the takedowns and that cost me the fight,” said Mein on the loss. Woodley wants a title shot next and he’ll likely get it, against who is only question now.
205 lbs.: King Mo defeated Lorenz Larkin by TKO
“I’m not sure if he was ready. You could see he was tentative and a little scared,” said Lawal of his opponent. Larkin was unable to stop the takedowns of Lawal and that put him in a bad place. Up next for King Mo should be a shot at the vacant light heavyweight belt and he knows who he wants, saying “I want Feijao next. No Gegard Mousasi. Boycott Gegard Mousasi. He’s boring.”While a loss is never a good thing, Larkin now knows his weakness and what he needs to work on to get to the next level.
185 lbs.: Robbie Lawler defeated Adlan Amagov by TKO
It expected to be a brawl and for the short period of time it was, that is until something hit Amagov and poof the fight was over. “I touched him a little with the knee but I actually intended to throw a kick,” said Lawler on the strike. The glancing blow ended the fight and Lawler comes out clean and ready to go again. ”I’m happy with the win and eager to get back in there soon.”
185 lbs. Championship bout: Luke Rockhold defeated Keith Jardine by TKO
Rockhold didn’t think Jardine was a worthy opponent for the championship and he showed him. He out punched Jardine like the others before him and even though it was a different weight class the results were the same. Rockhold called out the UFC middleweights but would later back track and tow the company line. As for Jardine, think it might be time to hang them up.
