Anthony rumble Johnson set to shake up middleweight at UFC 142
With UFC 142 only days away now it’s time to take a look at Anthony Johnson who is looking to make a run at the 185 lb. strap. This could be the best thing for him as he was never a natural welterweight and the massive weight cut would never favor him as a contender at 170 pounds, such abuse to his body leading up to the fight will never be a good thing.
The move to middleweight had been on the cards for Johnson and when the UFC asked him to fight Belfort it would be hard for anyone to pass up an opportunity to fight on of the greats in the sport. Although confident in his abilities Johnson is not counting Vitor out just yet, He is well aware of his one punch knockout power and the people Belfort has put away in the past names such as Rich Franklin and Yoshihiro Akiyama, both in the opening round
“Vitor, to me, is just like everybody else,” Johnson said. “He’s a human. He’s a fighter just like me. His hands are always the most dangerous part, especially in that first round. But I’m sure Vitor doesn’t want to get embarrassed, so he’s going to come in really good shape. I’m putting a lot of pressure on him…. I’m beating the hell out of him….”
All this confidence is mounting up and Johnson is looking to establish himself within the 185 lb. division and he is sending out a warning to the rest of the middleweight contenders including Chael Sonnen who is still considered as the number one contender to Anderson Silva’s title
“I will dominate Vitor Belfort. Chael Sonnen is seen as the top threat to Anderson Silva’s title. Well, I am at 185 pounds and everyone at middleweight has to worry about me now. I’m in this division to go to the top. You will see a whole different animal now I am at this weight class.”
If Johnson can overcome Belfort this weekend it will see him thrown in the mix with all Sonnen, Michael Bisping, Demian Maia and Mark Munoz. 2 more wins could see him gain that chance at UFC gold
