Mark Munoz Injured, Chael Sonnen vs. Michael Bisping now Set for UFC on FOX 2
The New Year didn’t seem to cure the injury bug that had plagued the UFC during stretches of 2011. Middleweight contender Mark Munoz was scheduled to face Chael Sonnen on January 28th to determine the next challenger to Anderson Silva. Unfortunately an injury has forced him off the card and it will now be Michael Bisping versus Sonnen for a shot at the middleweight title.
“Munoz is injured and out of the FOX fight! Now it’s Chael Sonnen vs Mike Bisping jan 28th and the winner will fight Anderson for the title,” twitted UFC President Dana White.
Munoz appears to have injured his right elbow and after having it examined he discovered he’ll need surgery to repair and he then withdraw from the fight.
Bisping was already booked as the third fight on the televised FOX portion of the card, taking on Demian Maia. What happens to Maia following the switch and who fills that third televised fight is still unknown but we’ll update you as more information is given
