Sean Loeffler Confident heading into UFC Debut at UFC on Fuel TV

On tomorrows UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger card, nestled on the preliminary card is a bout featuring two middleweight fighters making their promotional debut. California’s Sean “The Destroyer” Loeffler, with 30 professional bouts under his belt will be taking on Jackson’s MMA product Buddy Roberts. Loeffler enters a division that already holds some of the most interesting characters the UFC has to offer and will fit right in with the best of them.

A day before making his UFC debut, Loeffler talked with MMA Valor and the California MMA scene, making his debut and why he feels bad for his opponent. Like others within the middleweight division, “The Destroyer” can talk to talk in and outside the cage. Make no mistake though; he can walk the walk as well!

First off since it’s your UFC debut and many fans might not to that familiar with you, give us a little bit of who is Sean “The Destroyer” Loeffler?

If you’re not familiar with me, that kind of sucks if you’re an MMA fan, because I’m the most exciting fighter out there right now. I’m not going to run around like Carlos Condit. I mean, I’ve got my Adidas’ on, and I’ve been on the treadmill for the last six weeks. And since I’m fighting a guy from the same camp, I’ll probably be chasing him around the Octagon. But I’m an exciting fighter that finishes fights. Out of my twenty-five wins, I have twenty-four finishes, with twenty of those in the first round.

You’ve fought a lot on the West Coast in your career. What you think of the West Coast MMA landscape?

We’ve got great fighters on the West Coast…some of the best in the world. It’s where all the best jiu-jitsu guys are. It’s where some of the best gyms are. Jackson’s is a great camp and everything, but it’s got nothing on the gyms here on the West Coast.

You’re making your UFC debut on Wednesday yet your been fighting professionally since 2000 and have 30 fights under your belt. What went through you head when you heard you made it to the UFC?

It’s about time…ha. That’s pretty much what went through my head. So it’s about time. I’ve been waiting 12 years for this.

Having the experience behind you, how do you think you’ll handle the pressures of fighting on the big stage?

I’ve fought on big shows before, I’ve fought live on NBC in a main event, I’ve fought on HDNet main events…there’s no more pressure here than anywhere else. If you put more pressure on yourself, you’re just setting yourself up for disaster. I’m more experienced, I’m the better fighter, and I bring it. He’s got some good skills, but I’m going to put my hand in his mouth and see just how good he is after that.

You’ll be facing Buddy Roberts, who is also making his UFC debut. Thought’s on Roberts?

I feel bad that Buddy Roberts had his first UFC opportunity and they matched him up against Sean Loeffler. That’s a bummer. A lot of fighters want to look good in front of Joe and Dana in their first UFC bout, and that’s going to be tough to do when it’s me standing across the cage from him. He’s a good, tough fighter, but this has been my dream for twelve years. He’s been fighting for four and a half. So we’ll see who wants it more.

The majority of your fights end in the first round, is it as simple as having that “killer instinct” or is there more to it?

It’s just because I bring it every fight. I’m so aggressive, and I always move forward. I hit so hard, and I’ve got so many slick submissions it’s tough for a guy to last into the second or third round with me…it’s pretty much handled.
