Stefan Struve gets tough draw at UFC on Fuel TV 1

When Dutch fighter Stefan Struve steps into the Octagon you can guarantee two things, he’ll be taller than his opponent and it’ll be an exciting fight. The 6 foot 11 inch steps back into the Octagon this Wednesday at UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger, looking to put on another show, while capturing back to back wins. To do that though he’ll need to get past a tough matchup for him in Dave Herman.

Struve (22-5) is 6-3 during his time in the UFC and is coming off a second round submission victory against Pat Barry four months ago. Struve holds 15 career submissions but has had trouble with his chin during his time in the UFC. The three loses he’s suffered in the UFC have all been by (T)KO, which has stymied his momentum in the division. The perception of Struve’s weak chin will get put to the test by “pee-Wee” in the night’s co-main event.

Herman (21-2) won his UFC debut against John-Olav Einemo at UFC 131 with his 15th career win by (T)KO. The win was the third in a row for the wrestler out of Temecula, California and while Herman doesn’t have an impressive list of opponents you cannot argue with his skill. With power in both hands and the ability to keep the fight standing, Herman is the matchup issue for not only Struve but the UFC heavyweight division in General.

Neither fighter typically wastes any time during their fights and going right after their opponent, looking for the quick finish. The two heavyweights have a total of 50 fights between them and have only gone the distance in just two of them, making the odds low that this one will have the scorecards read. The thing is the combination of Herman’s power and Struve’s questionable chin, coupled by the fact Herman has yet to be submitted, stacks the cards against the “skyscraper”. Can Struve overcome these odds is what will play out this Wednesday, live on Fuel TV.
