Bellator 62 will not feature Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos
What a mess the season five heavyweight tournament has turned out to be. It all started with eight heavyweights with Eric Prindle and Thiago Santos emerging as the finalists. With a shot at the heavyweight crown, the two fought at Bellator 59 on November 26th, effectively ruining the tournament.
The fight lasted less than 90 seconds and was ruled a no-contest following a groin kick that rendered Prindle unable to continue. Without a tournament winner challenge Cole Konrad a rematch was scheduled for last week’s Bellator 61 in hopes to tie up the loose end.
An illness to Prindle put the fight on hold a week but wow what a difference a week makes. Eric Prindle vs. Thiago Santos 2 is not going to happen!
At Thursday’s Bellator 62 weigh-ins Santos weighed 277.8 pounds, 12.8 pounds over the heavyweight limit. The bout was scratched and Prindle was declared the season-five heavyweight tournament winner. He will now move on to face Cole Konrad at a later date.
The world of Mixed Martial Arts never ceases to amaze and yet another fighter misses weight and misses out. Thankfully all the season-six lightweight-tournament fighters were on weight for their opening-round bouts. So like last week the Bellator 62 main card will feature all four of the tournament quarterfinal bouts.
