Rick Hawn and Brent Weedman drop to 155 lbs. at Bellator 62
Two former Bellator welterweight tournament contenders are making the drop to 155 lbs. to compete in this season’s lightweight tournament that starts at tonight Bellator 62. As if the new weight cut wasn’t enough, both fighters will also be facing Bellator newcomers, which should make for some great quarterfinal round action.
Judo Olympian and Season 4 runner-up Rick Hawn enters the tournament fighting at 155 lbs. for the first time in his martial arts career. Hawn was due to take part in the season 5 welterweight tournament but due to a knee injury had to be taken out and replaced by Chris Cisneros. How he handles his first fight back since fighting back at Bellator 43 along with the weight cut will play a major factor. Hawn will be facing top Brazilian prospect Ricardo Tirloni who’s only loss in his career came against the current UFC champion, Benson Henderson.
The other fighter dropping down to 155 lbs. and joining Hawn in the lightweight tournament is Brent Weedman.Currently 4 and 2 in Bellator Fighting Championships, Weedman looks to get back to his winning ways after consecutive unanimous decision losses to Jay Hieron at Bellator 40 as part of the Season 4 welterweight tournament semi-finals and Chris Lozano in the opening round of the Season 5 tournament at Bellator 49. Weedman gets Muay Thai fighter J.J. Ambrose to start the tournament who is riding a seven fight winning streak.
Both Hawn and Weedman should benefit from dropping down in weight but will there be a learning curve for them at Bellator 62? The rest of the card looks like this:
