With the addition on Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen to the top of the UFC 148, the July 7th fight card was arguably one of the most stack fight cards in History. Now with two title fights and several former champions anchoring the main card, you had to think something had to give.
Well that something gave today as the UFC announced the removal of the scheduled middleweight bout between Michael Bisping and Tim Boetsch. For those looking forward to that fight, you won’t have to wait long though as it was quickly rescheduled for two weeks later at UFC 149 in Calgary.
The top middleweight bout was originally part of the main card, but became expendable when the middleweight title fight between Silva and Sonnen was pushed from UFC 147 to UFC 148. One push back results in another and the UFC 149 is the ultimate beneficiary of it.
Bisping and Boetsch will now join Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cheick Kongo, Thiago Alves vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama and UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo against a yet to be determined opponent.
UFC 149 will take place on July 21, 2012 from the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and will become the first event that the UFC has held in Alberta, Canada.
