Solid Fights being added to the UFC on Fox 4 Card
All the talk of late has been about the stacked UFC 148 fight card happening on July 7th, but the UFC has recently been adding some solid fights to the UFC on FOX 4 card. On the heels of the rumored Brian Stann vs. Hector Lombard bout landing on UFC on FOX 4, the promotion has added two more notable fights.
Top ranking light heavyweights Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader have agreed to meet and will likely appear on the might’s main card on FOX. With both fighters having a loss at the hands of the current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones, they are each looking to start that climb back up the ladder.
Machida (17-3) last stepped into the Octagon in December when he faced Jon Jones in an attempt to reclaim the belt he once wore. Those efforts would come up shot as the champion would score a second round technical submission. Since making his only successful title defense, the karate specialist has lost three of his last four bouts.
Bader (14-2) has won his last two fights to rebound from the back to back losses he suffered against Jones and Tito Ortiz. The winner of The Ultimate Fighter season 8 had been undefeated before those defeats got back to his NCAA Division 1 wrestling background to turn things around.
Also added to the card is a heavyweight clash between recent winners, Ben Rothwell and Travis Browne. Most likely their bout will end up on the night’s undercard on FX but nothing has been made official regarding that yet.
Rothwell (32-8) has been battling injuries recently but scored a big win at UFC 145 with a first round stoppage of Brendan Schaub that earned him the “Knockout of the Night”. The MMA veteran improved his UFC record to 2-2 but he also holds notable wins over Roy Nelson, Ricco Rodriguez and Krzysztof Soszynski twice in the IFL.
Browne (13-0-1) as fought on the UFC 145 where he earned “Submission of the Night” honors with a first round arm-triangle choke victory over Chad Griggs. The lone blemish on Browne’s record is a draw he had against Cheick Kongo at UFC 120, after Kongo was deducted a point for holding the shorts.
Still three months away, UFC on FOX 4 is taking shape nicely and the three bouts mentioned above are a solid start to the fourth televised event on FOX. UFC on FOX 4 is expected to take place Aug. 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California and In addition to the main card being televised on FOX, FUEL TV is expected to carry the prelims.
