Jessica Aguilar shocks the WMMA Rankings at Bellator 69

Tonight’s Bellator 69 fight card showcased two of the best female fighters in the world, and it was an incredibly fun and close fight for fans worldwide to enjoy. Jessica Aguilar improved her MMA record to 14-4 and win streak to five, with her last loss a heavily disputed decision loss for Zoila Grugel. Megumi Fuji on the other hand dropped her second close decision loss in 27 fights taking her off the kingpin status of the straw weight division.

Round 1 was mostly Fuji who had top position for most of the round and a solid submission attempt that nearly took Aguilar out. Aguilar threw many strikes from all positions and she was in battering Fuji making it a hard round to score.

Round 2 was notable for both women, Fuji was aggressive and pushing the pace but Aguilar Landed a huge punch that nearly leveled Fuji and most likely swayed the judges to give her the round. It was incredibly close but Aguilar stole it with being on target.

Round 3 reminded fans of an old classic between King Mo and Mousasi where the fighter on bottom out landed and out worked the top position fighter 3-4 strikes to 1. While Fuji had grappling control she was very inactive and Aguilar gave her an extremely aggressive barrage of strikes from every position. The downtime in the third could have cost Fuji the fight though it could have gone either way.

Judges never seem to please every fan, but this fight was too close to even consider the mention of a “robbery”. Bellator put on a great WMMA fight with two of the top women’s fighters in the world and perhaps a tournament they can put together another tournament in season seven.
