Jake Ellenberger Not too thrilled with Stoppage
A fighter claiming he was “ok” or was “not out” is not uncommon in MMA; in fact it happens far too often. It seems to happen at least one time an event and Friday’s TUF Live Finale didn’t deviate from the norm.
In the night’s main event, Jake Ellenberger took on Martin Kampmann in a welterweight showdown. Ellenberger had Kampmann on the edge of defeat in the first round but the fight was not stopped and Kampmann held on to survive the round. In round two a cut up Kampmann clipped Ellenberger and sent him awkwardly stumbling to the cage. Kampmann closed the distance looking to capitalize on the hurt opponent and he did exactly that with a knee to the face that dropped Ellenberger. The referee came crashing in to stop the fight, sending Kampmann into celebration mode as Ellenberger sat there bewildered.
“The stoppage was terrible. It’s not my decision and it is out of my hands, but I knocked him down in the first round and he kept fighting. I didn’t get the chance to keep fighting,” said Jake Ellenberger.
Jake Ellenberger was clearly unhappy with the outcome and the possible “early” stoppage as evident by the look on his face after the fight (pictured). That look of utter frustration was still there when Ellenberger took the stage for the post fight press conference to answer questions from the media (see below picture).
Slouching over and making faces towards the questions asked of his opponent, Jake Ellenberger finally got his chance to talk. He was obviously disappointed and thought he should have been given a chance to recover, as his opponent was in round one.
Coming into the fight, Ellenberger had won five fights in a row and had hoped a win on Friday would have earned him a number one contender bout, but that bout will now likely go to Kampmann. Do you think Jake Ellenberger was out or should he have been given a chance to recover??
