The UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall Main Card Saves day, Steals Bonuses
The UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall main card saved the day tonight and the bonuses they collected is all the proof needed. The prelims dragged on at a grinding pace, saw the referees make several questions calls and one judge see a fight in the complete opposite direction as the others.
All but two of the eight UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall preliminary bouts went the distance at a pace that could have put you to sleep. Luckily Tim Means and Dustin Pague scored the only finishes on the prelims and broke up the string of decisions that opened the night. Too bad there were three more decisions leading into the main card.

The UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall card was in desperate need of a pick me up and Scott Jorgensen and Eddie Wineland opened the main card with just what the doctor ordered. The two bantamweights went toe to toe for nearly 10 minutes, resulting in a nasty cut above the eye of Wineland and Jorgensen in serious need of some smelling salts. The action gave Wineland a knockout victory and earned both fighters the Fight of the Night.
Up next it was Mike Pyle’s turn to shine as he grabbed the Knockout of the Night with a pretty right hand to the jaw of Josh Neer. Pyle (pictured) opened the fight with a takedown but after Neer made his way back up Pyle found himself in trouble. With just second left in the round Pyle connected with a combo that sent Neer crashing to the canvas with little regard for his face.
In the UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall co-main event, Charlie Brenneman looked to take the card back to its grinding ways but his opponent was having none of that. Erick Silva spent a good portion of the first round trying to keep Brenneman off him but in round two he reversed a takedown attempt and took Brenneman’s back. From there the hooks went in, Silva flattened him out and earned Submission of the Night by forcing him to tap.
The night was saved and the flyweights hadn’t even stepped into the Octagon yet. In their rematch, Demetrious Johnson and Ian McCall would put on another solid 15 minutes of action in the main event but it wouldn’t land either of them a bonus. Johnson did out point McCall to earn himself a spot alongside Joseph Benavidez in the first ever UFC Flyweight title fight.
UFC on FX: Johnson vs. McCall might have started out slow but it ended with a bang, too bad the Venue was only halfway filled……
